Any taxpayer (or taxpayer’s written representative) desiring to appeal the property assessment must first hold a conference during or before the open inspection period with the Property Valuation Administrator (PVA). This is the last formal period to appeal or work with the PVA’s office to lower the properties assessed amount (May 3rd through May 17th including Saturday’s) before assessments are certified by the Department of Revenue. Conferences are mainly held in person but can be held over the phone or even on an online platform like zoom by appointment. Any taxpayer still aggrieved by an assessment after meeting with the PVA, may appeal to the Tax Appeals Board (to get a scheduled appointment for the board to hear, you must take your conference paperwork from the PVA to the County Clerk no later than the close of business on May 18th). The appeal must be filed with the county clerk no later than one workday following the conclusion of the inspection period, no exceptions.
